You can expect that caribbean travel around Jamaica can be an expensive part of a all inclusive caribbean vacation.  You can prearrange for a rental car at the airport and travel yourself (British style wrong side of the road). Or you can prearrange for us to send a driver to pick you up at the airport.  Our Airlines & Travel page has many more resources and information for booking your trip. I wish I could tell you it's cheaper to rent or to hire drivers, but that depends on how many and which trips you choose to take during your stay.  If you decide to stay for 2 weeks and spend half of it on the beach, then it would be cheaper to be picked-up and have us arrange your travel as needed on this caribbean island.  If you will be out and about seeing sites (and you can handle 3rd world British driving with a caribbean map), then renting is for you.  Definitely opt-in for insurance if you rent. Renting starts at about $50 US per day plus insurance.  When hiring a driver in Jamaica it is customary to tip good drivers as it is in most places.  You need to decide what that means to you and let him know.  If you want to know everything about everything you pass, let him know.  If you want a quiet peaceful ride, let him know.  If you make many impromptu stops then you should bump up the tip if he obliges politely.  At the end of the ride, you decide how well he did. Tipping is not required, but is customarily 10-20% of the services rendered.  It is always a good idea to confirm the exact price of the trip ahead of departure.

The official currency is the Jamaican dollar, commonly referred to as the "J".  U.S. money (currency only, no coins) is accepted at most establishments, although you'll often be given change in Jamaican money. The most prevalent bank on the Island is the Bank of Nova Scotia (Sam Sharpe Sq., Montego Bay, Jamaica. phone: 876-952-4440; 35 King St., Kingston, phone: 876-922-1420).  Banks in Port Antonio are generally open Monday to Friday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., but some may close at 2 p.m.  There are three ATMs in Port Antonio.  These are: RBTT Bank, Harbour Street; Scotia Bank, Harbour Street; First Caribbean Bank, corner West and Harbour Street. Travelers Checks and Currency can be exchanged at airport bank counters, exchange bureaus, or commercial banks. Credit cards are accepted in most up-scale restaurants, hotels and resorts.  Most other places in Long Bay do not accept Credit Cards.
